The Red Devils will be without their Germany international for the trip to St James' Park while Adnan Januzaj is not ready yet to feature for the U21s
Louis van Gaal has confirmed Manchester United will have to make do without the services ofBastian Schweinsteiger when they take on Newcastle United on Tuesday.
The Germany international picked up a knee injury in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Sheffield United at the weekend and has consequently been ruled out of the trip to St James' Park.
"Bastian is injured, that we know," van Gaal told MUTV on Monday. "We have seen that because he could not move.
"In spite of playing more or less with 10-and-a-half men, we beat Sheffield United and we were very happy with that."
Following the trip to St James' Park, United then take on Liverpool on Sunday and Van Gaal hinted he may rotate his squad in order to allow players sufficient rest.
"We have to recover. Yesterday we recovered but we have to see if the players are still overloaded or not," he added. "Until this moment, the players have not arrived so we have to wait and see.
"After I know all the data, I can line up. That is why it is always difficult in a period when we have to play a lot of matches. You have to wait to see how the players are recovering of the load in the match."
Van Gaal has also made it clear Adnan Januzaj will not feature in Monday's Under-21 clash with Reading.
The Belgium international prematurely returned to Old Trafford after his loan spell with Borussia Dortmund was cut short and was expected to play for the U-21 team in order to gain match fitness.
However, Van Gaal feels the 20-year-old is not fit enough to play yet and will not take any risks with the attacking midfielder.
